How to Clean a Mirror Backsplash Using All Natural Sprays (& Avoid Scratches!)

Mirror backplashes are a stylish and practical addition to any modern kitchen, but let’s face it, they can be a pain to clean and soon look grubby. I’m not a fan of traditional cleaning products for two reasons:

  1. They can leave streaks and smears
  2. Some highstreet brands may contain harsh chemicals that hurt your health and let’s just say aren’t too friendly to Mother Nature

But don’t worry, as always on TGCS, we’ve got a solution that will be kind to your skin and won’t break the bank. In this article, we’ll show you how to clean your mirror backsplash using all-natural sprays that will leave it shiny, streak-free and looking (almost) brand new.

In this article:

Depending on the method you choose you will need:

  • Natural eco-friendly dishwashing soap
  • White Vinegar
  • Soft sponge
  • Lint-free microfiber cloth (x2)

Steps For Cleaning Your Mirror Backsplash To Defeat Pesky Streaks

Method 1

using warm soapy water
Make your soap solution
Start by mixing a few drops of mild eco-friendly dish soap with warm water in a spray bottle. Don’t go too crazy here otherwise you will be dealing with too many soap suds.
Spray & wipe down using a microfiber cloth or sponge
Spray the solution onto your mirror backsplash and use a microfiber cloth to wipe it down. Make sure to wipe in the direction of the grain to avoid streaks. If the backsplash has some extra stubborn spots of grime DON’T be tempted to reach for the scouring pad or your mirror will be no more. Use a soft sponge instead, and it’s time for some good ol’ fashioned elbow grease 😀
Use a clean microfiber cloth to dry the backsplash
Use a clean, dry lint-free microfiber cloth to dry the backsplash, again wiping in the direction of the grain. Avoid using paper towels as they can break on the surface.

Method 2

using white vinegar
Mix your vinegar & water solution
Mix 50:50 of white vinegar with water in a spray bottle. This will be quite a strong solution so ease up on the vinegar if you are sensitive to the smell. Likewise, top up with more vinegar if the backsplash is extra greasy (yum!)
Spray on the backsplash & get wiping
Spray the solution onto your mirror backsplash and use a microfiber cloth to wipe it down. Again, make sure to wipe in the direction of the grain to avoid streaks, don’t be tempted to channel your Mr Miyagi
Use a clean microfiber cloth to dry the backsplash
Use a clean, dry lint-free microfiber cloth to dry the backsplash, wiping in the direction of the grain. Again avoid reaching for paper towels.

Why Is It Important To Avoid Abrasive Chemicals?

Because you don’t want to leave scratches on it, that’s like giving your reflection a permanent case of chicken pox. It’s important to keep your mirror looking shiny and new, so no rough stuff, please!

Does The Water Type Matter?

Want to make your mirror sparkle like a diamond? It’s all about the water, baby! Sure, any old water will do the trick, but if you want to take your mirror cleaning game to the next level, use distilled or purified water. It’s like a fancy spa day for your mirror, free of any mineral impurities that might leave streaks or stains. So watch out for that tap water, it’s like a science experiment gone wrong – it’s full of dissolved minerals like calcium, magnesium and chlorine that can leave a haze or residue on the mirror when it dries. And don’t forget, warm water is like a warm hug for your mirror, it helps to loosen any dirt or grime and makes it easier to clean. So go ahead, give your mirror the royal treatment, it deserves it!

Cleaning your mirror backsplash doesn’t have to be a chore – although let’s face it, it is 😂. With these 2 all-natural sprays, you can easily keep on top of your backsplash and stop putting off cleaning your oven door. Whether you decide to opt for hot soapy water or white vinegar, both are effective and easy to use – so no more excuses!
